Welcome to the Real World

Welcome to the Real World

A Poem by Travis Mitchell

The bat that hits the ball

Sounds like a thunderous shred in the fabric of time and space

You watch the ball zero I'm towards the land at your feet

Yet you step away as it approaches

Moving faster and faster through each second of increasing velocity

Until

The Ball is at the feet of no one

It lies alone and abandoned

Dirtied and coated with adrenaline fueled sweat and violently extracted earth

People look on at this little orphaned orb. Not one stepping forward to claim it

In the distance, The one who was in the place of it's landing

Walks on, head down

Never looking back

Oh wow.. I am terrible at baseball, but the figurative meaning I like it. Being small, hit around and then having none to come for you. Sad reality.
