Goodbye To Butterflies

Goodbye To Butterflies

A Poem by Travis Prino

I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired of you

take my hand and look in my eyes as you start to come unglued

you thought we were forever but forever ended today

I'll hold you till you're all cried out while I'm planning my escape

reason with the evil that you feel inside my heart

we've grown older and we've grown stronger but we've grown apart

the man I am is not the man who fell in love with you

years go by and butterflies die as we're crippled by the truth

I wanted you to comfort me

when I'm gone will you find peace?

I wanted you to comfort me

when I'm gone you can find peace

finally be free

I was not the first one but I will be the last one you love

I was your addiction more fatal than your favorite drug

I crawled through your veins like a parasite eating your core

you tried to kill me but you're the one who needed me more

breathe in slowly as my silhouette dances in the night

I'm walking away from you and this mess that I'm leaving behind

the girl you are is not the girl who fell in love with me

so say goodbye to those butterflies that now feel like a disease

I wanted you to comfort me

when I'm gone will you find peace?

I wanted you to comfort me

when I'm gone you can find peace

finally be free

as my soul leaves my body and my pulse becomes faint

remember to hold me like you're my personal saint

forget the pain that I've caused you and the scars on your flesh

cause the bruises and contusions can't be replaced with my death

I'll say I'm sorry and I love you as I whisper my final words

I don't expect you to forgive me for the selfish acts you've endured

she was the only one who's ever loved me and the only one I ever hurt

now all I can do is lie here as the light pulls me away from her

I wanted you to comfort me

when I'm gone will you find peace?

I wanted you to comfort me

when I'm gone you can find peace

finally be free

suddenly everything changes

from the sound of your voice

to the beat of my heart

while you're holding your breath

and I'm falling apart

suddenly everything changes

as your voice fades away

and my light flickers out

I can see that our love

has broken you down

and as you're letting me go

your arms still feel like home

I wanted you to comfort me

when I'm gone will you find peace?

I wanted you to comfort me

when I'm gone you can find peace

finally be free

I leave you below

I leave you alone

so I will never hurt you again.
