"I know I don't tell you often enough, but- I love you."

I look at you, mom
and see the tired look in your eyes
Your eyebrows knit together/ burrowed deep in concentration

 I look at you, mom
 and notice/ the worried lines
on your forehead/ adding up through time

Am I a main cause for your worries?

I look at you, mom
 and feel shame/ at myself/
for giving you a hard time

But then, I look at you, mom
 again/ there's a smile on your face
stars in your eyes/ a moment of despair/ long forgotten

I look at you, mom
 and you're whole again/ and I notice it's because/
I tell you, I love you.
