Always

Always

A Poem by Saheli

Remember that night
When you went for a walk
On my painted street,
All my paint brushes and my colours in you cloth satchel?

I had told you I wanted some changes-
Take a little black from your hair
And give it to the night,
Dim the street light above your head...

I told you
And you snatched your bag
And all my things
And left for a walk on that road!

I thought you wanted to make
Some changes of your own
Without telling me about them
And in my anger told you never to come back...

And here I am now
Realising that you stole the tools of change
For you wanted none!

And there you are
Still walking on my road on that lamp-lit night
The same as always,

Always!
