"Adrift In Life's Storm"

"Adrift In Life's Storm"

A Poem by Valentine

   "Adrift in Life's Storm"

Lost and adrift on life's stormy sea,

Alone...with no anchor...no land do I see.

Floating in...and out with the wind,

Not even aware of where I have been.

Drifting out...so far from the shore,

Wanting a safe haven and... oh so much more.

Caught upon a wave...waiting to crest,

No life preserver, to hold to my breast.

Storm clouds brewing...far overhead,

High cresting waves that fill me with dread.

As I look ahead...no land do I see;

Wishing for rest, but there is no rest for me.

Watching the skies as the day comes to rest,

Wishing to sleep before the ocean crests.

Riding along...catching the waves and the wind,

Wondering if I will ever...see land again.

Far from the mainland...no island in sight,

Dreading the deep dark closing of night.

Longing for a place to find rest for my soul;

My feet on solid ground to once again ...feel whole.

This piece is difficult to pin but i feel it is talking about the uncertainty of life carrying you around to wherever it pleases just like being caught in the waves. when you worry about the future it scares you as to whats to come hopping to be able to guide yourself once again. yet again a great piece.

With so many great poems have you ever considered story writing? I feel that you could do well.

Yes, and I also wrote for newspapers and magazines. I am retired from all of that. Kathie
I do understand this poem.
"Longing for a place to find rest for my soul;
My feet on solid ground to once again ...feel whole."
Life can send us to places we don't want to be. The above lines had been true for me many times in my lifetime. Thank you dear friend for sharing the excellent poetry.

My pleasure dear Kathie and you are welcome.
Superb Kathie. The aches and pains of treading water, just to remain in the same position as you were in, miles from anything and anyone, lost and alone in the darkness, wondering where everything went. These thoughts are the ones that wake us in panic and stop sleep from coming. Life, the scariest show on earth.
