Earth's Soul

Earth's Soul

A Poem by Valentine

         Earth's Soul

As all of nature, goes to sleep;

When winter's snow, drifts down.

All creaking timber, sighs and weeps,

For earth's soul, goes...underground.

Cold ice covers, land's dying warmth,

As bitter coldness, enters inside.

Burying all ugliness, where no real harm;

Can come to what, the earth and ice hide.

For a season of time, the world stands still,

Chilled by the brisk freezing breeze.

When suddenly...the sun shines at will,

Slowly thawing, the long winter freeze.

Like warm hands held fast... to the earth,

It once again the ground... shows us its soul;

Opening like, another miracle of birth,

When the sun and ground are again whole.

The sighing and shaking, of the warm land;

As all of the undergrowth pushes through.

Mother Nature needs... no helping hand,

As she awaits spring's rebirth... anew.

Then earth's soul is once again free;

Opening up and baring itself for all to see.

These February thaws are always welcome, This year's has been exceptional. Jet Stream meandered to the north and we got that lovely warm air from down south. Funny it was global warming, then climate change, when really, it's always been weather. Good one, Kathie

Seasons will continue to change and nature will continue to show the signs of those changes...and there is a bit of comfort in that. What a lovely poem of nature. Lydi**

Thank you for your kind words. Kathie
The first signs of Spring are now appearing, and our local woodland is already showing signs of colour again. Having read this poem encouraged me to walk out in the rain this evening to confirm this. And to cap it all, it is now sunny. Norman

I love the whole symbiotic ambience of this one Kathie. Mother Nature patiently waiting as the seasons have their turn - "no rush - done this a few times before..." I can her her say like a theatre director.

Brilliant heralding of the coming Spring my friend.
