The Old Hag

The Old Hag

A Poem by Rhayne

Dusk til dawn she prays for sleep

Dawn til dusk her job is to keep

Monday to Sunday, it’s always the same

An old hag has no life to tame

While bathing in the light of the moon

She wishes the sun would not rise so soon

Yes. there are those days when everything seems absurd and contradictory. LIke those dreams where you never get what you want. I think you are a real poet.

I love this little ditty. I understand that feeling. The suns about to rise and you haven't slept a wink. then having to get up the next day and be a functioning member of society. haha. It certainly does make you feel old

looks like a poem to me:) also seems to me that old hag must be a pretty darn lovely caregiver too! I bet if you asked that moon might give you another hour....

awe!!! thank you for the lovely words. I knew there were still some sweet men out there somewhere.
I love this poem. It has an echo of "old woman who lives in a shoe - so many kids, she doesn't know what to do" . . . & in this vein, I have never had kids (I'm 63 & don't regret it a bit!) Being a parent is the most grueling thankless endless gig ever invented & even more so nowadays, since "kids" even graduated from college cannot get jobs to support themselves beyond the parent(s) home. Your poem paints the way parenting must feel like a round-the-clock noose around one's neck! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You say you're not a poet, but this piece says otherwise. Good job!

If you're not a poet, you should turn your hand to it more often. This is almost a nursery rhyme in feel. In fact, you should hop over to Pandora's Box of Horrors group on Facebook, and try your hand our annual Halloween contest. The theme this year is twisted nursery rhymes.

we all feel like this at times. very deep, honest feelings you've shared. time marches on of course. we can run but not hide. perhaps the trick is for us to grow old gracefully with a smile no matter. you have more power than you think. could be worse - you could be an old bag! ... :)
