This time I'm in Madikeri - known as India's Switzerland. I visited the place without any prior planning or whatsoever. This time I was just planning to see how things will go. I just took 1000 Rs with me for an entire travel of 5 days, leaving my wallet, cards and phone at home. Nothing more- just wanting an adventure to unfold on it's own.

I reached Coorg (another name) on an afternoon. The temperature was somewhere between 12 and 15 degree Celsius. I was famished after the train journey. As usual I looked for temples/mosques nearby . There are many places which offers food to poor and also those who come for pilgrimage. I had a full meal. One thing about such food is that it is free from adulteration and in a way, consecrated.

I walked around and saw a fort which was almost inhabited. I didn't book any room to stay and was short on money. I decided to spend the night walking. By the time it was 7.30 PM, I got a hint of what was coming. The temperature started dropping. I couldn't think of any other way. I went straight into a hotel( Little fancy one) and said :

"Look, I'm here without any money to pay you. But if you give me stay for tonight- I will offer some service during these 5 days. " I told them what I do and my profession.

The man at the reception laughed on me and said it's impossible. There was an old man at the cash point. He asked me : “ What made you think that you will get a room here?”

I told him “I’m not sure whether I will get. But the only thing I know is that If I don’t ask, I will certainly not get! “

I think this impressed the man. They told me to wait for some time and got me some tea. And finally I was offered a decent room (You can see me in the above picture and the room they offered).

During the span of my stay I wrote content for their advertisements and also designed quotes to be hung on the walls of each room.

If is always interesting to travel in different countries to get a feel for the culture. I've done this many times myself and have stayed in the homes of kind people who are willing to provide a place to lay my head and to show me places off the beaten path.

I love this. I am a firm believer in the axiom, if we don't ask, the answer will always be "no" . . . or, if we don't try, the result will always be "failure" . . . it's amazing how many unlikely doors can be opened by wearing an upbeat attitude & some belief in whatever one is trying to do. One time I walked down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in brand new boots that were so comfy, I did not need the sandals I carried. At the bottom, a guy was peeling his bloody socks away from solid blistered feet & I sold him my sandals for $20!!!! There are deals to be made everywhere! Great way to use an allegory to show a pertinent life lesson! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
