It's not about me

So you want to know about me

You say that poetry is personal

or at least that is the easiest to write

you say that I should write about my experiences of international student

yet I feel that there is nothing to say.

Everybody thinks that it's hard. Being thousands miles from home,

alone in a country where no one speaks your language.

What am I supposed to tell you? What do you want to hear from me?

Oh yes, it's hard!? I call home every night!?

But you have the wrong person.

But I think it doesn't matter, I don't think this is about me

I think it's about you!

Just for a second, you want to listen to me rambling and imagine yourself

imagine the struggle, the excitement when another problem is overcome

the ups and down of culture shock, standing victorious

at the end when you have overcome all the challenges

But maybe not.

Still, the answer is simple. After you have made your decision you can only adapt.
