Thankful

Thankful

A Poem by WillaDanvers
"

I was sitting in the plane, and the night sky made me so thankful for everything I have, and might one day have.

"
Cruising above the soft white,
Invisible amongst blue and grey,
Dreaming of loving between whispers,
Blending in with the stars,

Something so calm up here,
No chaos of the life below,
Stars up above me, shining softly,
Burning a million years away,

Stars are made of all our dreams,
Not scientifically, but in a poet's writing,
Made of whispers of love and life,
Things never achieved, but always there,

One day we can tick off those dreams,
If not you, then someone else will,
Perhaps only a dream it's meant to be,
To remind you of all things beautiful,

To keep you breathing amongst the dark,
Reminding you of a life worth living,
Finding that smile under the tears,
Life can always be beautiful if you wish,

Something so calm and soft,
Dreaming of a life and love forever,
Makes me so thankful of everything,
That has ever been given to me.

Being in a plane at night can have this effect, putting one in a detached, ruminative state. Here the speaker is confronted by the contradictions and disappointments of life, but also has a feeling of gratitude for life itself. Maintaining such an attitude can sometimes cause things to change for the better dramatically.
