Ducklings

Ducklings

A Poem by William Arthur
"

thoughts on animals

"

Ducklings

I love cats and

 birds and

feeding the ducks

even frickin used to keep ducks and

chickens and

 would rescue wild ducklings

from the village pond

 when they got lost

if you had ever seen

 a lost duckling

run over you

 would do

the same

 I have never felt

more like a lost

 duckling than

I do now.

The vulnerable things- the strays of the world- what a soft place they can make in the most leathered of old cantankerous hearts. Good stuff.

This started out happy and ended real sad, but I know that feeling too.

Living in Canada I see a lot of roadkill, so I've seen quite a few run over ducklings, and any small wild animal really.
