A Poem by Willis Walker

Let go of the broken promises

Spoken on cracked lips to plant faith

We don’t need that where we are

And let go of that resolution

That you are alone

An anomaly who’s spirit guide died

Many lives ago

For mine is the one who carried me through the rocks

Over the water through a dozen flocks

Of blackbirds singing a mocking song

They joked about her leaving but she stayed all along

And mine is the one who changed her name

But kept her smile in a silver frame

Grazing fingers through a glitch in space

To a worn out song and a tired face

And mine is the one who held me at night

A collapse of delusions at dawn’s fist light

Desire brought the blizzard that held us in place

The obsession on how an angel would taste

Watching and waiting

For a time to appear

The nihilists and martyrs

Sent me here

Always a first time, always surprising

For every tunnel there is a horizon

For I am the one to shelter your doubts

In an enigmatic embrace amongst the clouds

And I am the one to keep them away

The bleached out bones of yesterday

And I am the one that will stoke the fire

Holding you tight from that cold so dire

And I am the one who left you alone

To return when you needed

and bring you home
