Notes to a Lover

You are my sugar, my salt, my bread

My Godhead, my watershed

My love, my life

My every poem born and dead

You are the Babel in me that needs

No words, the color of my doom

That sonic boom in me

Which goes forever unheard

You are my Osun, my Ganges

In you I take eternal, unholy dips

You are every absinthal cup

I dread but never fail to sip

You are my submission

My every reason, my perdition

My Dante’s Leopard

The perfect beast of my ruination

You are my rapture, my rupture

My fatal breath sweet

The renewal of all my glands

My every mortal defeat

You are my ruin, the skin

Of my sin, my Maat, My Min

My Gin, my every rabid grin

My every peeve and chagrin

You are my rite, my ritual

My crawl space spiritual

My every spasm, my paroxysm perpetual

You are my end always

Unspoken and eventual...

Beautifully written, DIVYA!!! The rhyme was on point and the analogies were so good!!! Wish I had more words to describe this masterpiece, but for now, while my brain is on vacay, all I can say is I loved it, okay?

oh my, what you came up with here for analogies...amazing.

this was like reading Langston Hughes on speed...
He is so great at similes as well...
in his Dream Deferred

"dry up like a raisin in the sun"
"stink like rotten meat"
or does it explode"

Really strong Poetry, DIVYA.
thanks for this read, today.

Very imaginative imagery and splendid rhyming here. The exalted wording could be directed to Krishna, but the note concerning Min with his erect phallus may mean the subject is one more mortal.

I loved the poem my dear friend and you are welcome.
This piece is stunning, I found myself getting lost and wrapped in the beauty of the words before me. You are able to make such great comparisons that fit with ease into the lines, I don't know how to say this the right way but sometimes comparisons to Gods can sound stuffy or pretentious, while this is still comfortable and warm. It's a really great piece!

Oh Divvy, the recipient of this grace will be among the luckiest of creatures that ever walked upon this earth! what unfettered passion you placed within these lines... it reads like pure love in its most ego abandoned form... open and vulnerable and yet unafraid! Lightsong sent me the link to this... this morning so it was the first thing I saw upon waking and as I reread it just now, it still resonates so sublimely :) I can't help but smile and sigh

How inspired you were when you wrote these lines DIVYA and I truly hope you will have someone in your life that is truly that special. This is an awesome write and I don't often use that choice of vocabulary. Thank you for providing your detailed notes. A fine poem to read on a beautiful February morning and one that will stay in my memory bank.

And I thought Valentine's Day was well and truly past for the year! It's obvious from your delicious vocabulary that the one who inspired such a write must indeed walk on water. Comparisons to ancient gods and rivers of bounty amongst many examples here are proof of this person's impact on your life. The way you have entwined both the good and bad aspects of this person is highly original; love and lovers are never perfect and we must always take both the sweet and sour parts that make up a whole. So kudos for highlighting the negative and the positive here. It takes the poem far beyond the borders of the usual sappy love cliches. I enjoyed your poem and its remarkable abundance of references. Very well written! 🌹
