Settle Down

Settle Down

A Poem by Sam

Talk to me like I’m a person

not a position filled.

“That one’s only $300 thousand, babe.

It’d be a really good starter if we save.”

I don’t want to be the house on the hill-

Your joint bank account.

Cropped into the picture of your life

that existed before we met.

We are people, not pairs

Even if the norm tries to make us forget.
