Nightmares

Nightmares

A Poem by ❀ Gabriela ❀
"

A poem I wrote for my psychology class.

"
In the silent midst of night

And deep within your mind,

Things with which you cannot bear

Escape their dark confines.

They slither out from underneath,

They claw free from their cage.

These things of which you're not aware

All take the center stage.

You watch in fear as they unfurl

Like shadows, black and smoking.

The terror grips your heart like ice

And suddenly, you're choking.

The dark begins to cloud your mind

Like shadows, black and dense.

It whispers things inside your head

That don't make any sense.

A thousand frightening scenes play out;

Each one goes by in flashes.

Then suddenly, the shadows burst

And fall away like ashes.

The ground beneath you turns to dust,

But there's nothing there below.

You're falling, flailing desperately;

You've nowhere left to go.

Then, suddenly, you're wide awake;

The slumber now releases.

But although the dreaming stops,

The nightmare never ceases...

Lol. I really liked this one. I have studied dreams for 25+ years, so like mostly anything that has to do with them. Your poetic description of nightmares is very accurate. This is one of my fav lines, "...But although the dreaming stops,
The nightmare never ceases..." Even when we awake, it's like we're still there.

Once again, you've skillfilly written a rhyming poem without making it seem trite or childish. Are you a rhyming poet?

This is very very well written! Everything flows so beautifully and yet still has an eerie sort of sound... Especially like the line "You're falling, flailing desperately" :)

Great job with this! :)
