Words Told...

Words Told...

A Poem by Starr
"

It never was easy....never will be....

"
"I dug until the hurt stop, then when it did, it came back, and I started digging again"

The world is grim, and I have heard this so many times
It is malicious
Knowing that the life we all want
It is harder to accomplish than told
Why weren't we cautioned?
I wish my mother and father
I wish they would have told me
That in life we are vunlerable
As you get older
It is never easy anymore
You can't trust anyone
You can't rely on anything
The world is harsh
It is cruel
But you gotta live through
And make the best of the world
Because you have a light
Shining bright
Keep it glowing
Don't let it dim
No matter what you think
We all know how this world is
Don't make it end
Make the best of it
Don't let your light go out...

My parents did warn me, all the time, cautioning that there was danger at every turn. It isn't any easier being warned. We are resilient . . . not all of us, otherwise we wouldn't have a suicide rate . . . but if we have enough people telling us about the light, early on, it can give us an anchor when things really get rough. Still, even that anchor wasn't enough for me- I had the warning, and I had people telling me how I came from love, light, God's child, etc. I've heard more often than I care to remember the words, "well, nobody said it was going to be easy". I didn't want easy, I don't mind working hard, I just wanted breaks once and a while to rest between the hard times. Enough time to get up and rest a minute between fights, before being KO'd again. So, some of us don't get enough recuperative time, and at some point, the stress reaches critical mass. Even if we're made of light and love. This is why I have to believe that everything and everyone has purpose and meaning in this world, even if I don't understand it. That's what makes me highly adaptive and resilient now. You wanted inside the mind of the reader- this is all what your poem brought up in me. Hope it helps to know that your words called me to reflect . . .

It is a great poem and the message is relatable but I would suggest using deeper, more thoughtful words to truly grab your readers attention

I understand that life gets harder as you age, but at the same time, can we all remember just how terrible being a child or a teenager was?

I felt this poem a lot more than usual. It was a bit more positive than usual and I can get into that.

But seriously being a teenager sucked, this is an objective truth.

Can't stress how good this was.

And now I'm rambling
