Paper Doll

As if your paper doll dreams

Came to you, life size

And stood amid the scraps

Of your lost youth

You pasted me over with frilly confections

And expectations of doe eyed perfection

But

My feet are firmly planted in my own ideas of me

The original version of a work in progress

Carefree and happy to play your silly game

While standing ankle deep

In the clay that has yet

To set hard in the shape I will someday be

Life is sort of like a paper doll. We shape our thoughts and dreams.

I like the ending to this excellent poem.

I really liked this piece it truly shows the artistry in your words of a woman/child, changing, growing, learning. It truly breathes its picture well

Interesting take on shoes and "feet of clay". Feet are firmly planted (independence), but the clay has not set hard (yet). Raises the question ... what becomes of independence when the clay sets? :-) Nice poem!
