Doomed we all are...

There is just no way back,

It crawls in all of us, and eats us alive.

From our civil little cortex,

To the richer brain of history,

From a trillion years back, it speaks

To us, “to all of us” till now;

And yet, there is a cure,

A little one to keep so close;

A crawling cure, for sure;

A facing  fact, one but not to weep;

To love the eight-legged lover,

The paramour, of life, that deep,

Be ready to live and give your fear;

To the real black hairy creep

Ah... There's something about spiders that just... I don't know, make me all twitchy. Very well written and fun little piece. The picture compliments the creepiness as well. I also caught a little hint of double meaning as well, something about the human condition as being the thing that creeps. This is just fantastic, the way you make it about the reader really goves it an extra side of creepy and of course the fact that we must all come to terms with our mortality is an idea tht you explore in a poetic/creative way. Love it!

I enjoyed the little rhymes embedded in this poem. Big bad spiders are the heroes of Capitalism. Every business is a well advertised spider web with creepy entrepreneurs hiding in dark corners as their hapless little goggle-eyed customers are lured therein. Life isn’t fair. You don’t wanna know what happens next?

Every life form preys on something. It's better to be at the top of a food chain than at the bottom. As I said, life isn't fair. Even our machines prey on useful energy supplies. Every living thing is eating as they are they are being eaten, a circle of vicious engorgement.

I know life isn't fair at all, :) I'm right in it lol... it's so true.

Ahhhhh, great one, Ellie!! I do detect a bit of symbolism in this piece, as perhaps there is in all your poems. Especially in lines like, "it crawls in all of us, and eats us alive." There are many things it could symbolize, like judgment, or hatred, but that's up to interpretation, I suppose.

And, of course, if you take it literally, spiders are rather creepy too!! They don't scare me so much; I'm fascinated by them. But I wouldn't want to be bitten by one either! Scorpions fascinate me too (in case you hadn't noticed.) :-)

Oh, there definitely *are* some things I'm afraid of! I'm somewhat afraid of heights, although not as much as I used to be. I think my biggest fears are somewhat deeper, though...more emotional. Perhaps we can talk about that another time. :-)
