~ Walking Higher

My dreamscape was inside this castle

I ran through thoughts heavenly heavy

Like running through cold water,

I couldn’t move my legs so well,

As they were stuck as burning hell

To the gravity twice times harder

I tried to move on a bit

No clear vision of where to go,

The instinctive brain, forced me

Reading my impulses, and to follow them,

Higher and higher instead, touching my

Dream, gasping for breath,

Tearing eyes, cheeks so red

Where was I lost in my home? and

Why did I ran that fast?

Twice fallen on my face

As I was fighting the space

No ending realm, to rest for a bit,

Haunting and creepy stairs

As they did not fit

They turned around, and moved

Away, like I couldn't hold to stay

I couldn’t move on anymore

Falling deeper and deeper,

With adrenaline in my chest

I did stumble on thoughts

Fall into the big black hole

I decided to stop….

Losing my mind….

Running in higher mazes

This wasn’t what I wanted

Being caged in a building

I needed fresh air, and some

Grass under my feet,

Not walking higher and higher

To fear and to run or escape

This suffocating dream, was narrowed

And yet took too long,

Rescuing myself by singing me

Out of the dream scheme, a song

I jumped onto the window in front of me

Glass pricked within my skin

There arose a crimson hue

Not knowing I just killed myself,

And woke up next to you….

This reminds me of one of my recurring nightmares, but you're always on the move, searching, feeling, losing control, gaining it, regretting it .. a mind full of mixed emotions, screaming, fighting for escape, tearing at your mind's pictures, wanting to rip at the canvas of them .. so frightening .. and then, that ending, the realisation that there's no escape, no getting away from what turns out to be reality in a place of your own making .. and where you find who and what you find. Your words really drew this reader deeper and deeper, and, somehow, you found my fears. Eli.

I just had to save this to my library. I took it as you were running away from love, but you kept failing. Love could be one huge maze and sometimes we play as the mouse trying to navigate the maze. Maybe the lover you woke up next to was already dead in heaven ("higher"). Maybe it was all one big dream/nightmare in which you thought you were getting away because you are trapped by the lover. The pain of the glass caused you to wake up and get back to reality (lover right next to you). I LOVE how it's creepy, yet beautiful. Its just full of emotion. Thank you

This is so wonderfully descriptive I fell inside your dream and felt it as my own. A dark nightmare... Killing yourself then waking up next to your lover.. Wonderfully creative ..xo

very chilling write...I think we all get those dreams, I know that I used to...I often wonder if we dream so much as we age, I don't seem to have them now..Maybe I simply forget....I DID have a recurring dream concerning a house with many staircases and rooms...It is still pretty vivid in my memory..I often wonder if that house really exists, so powerful was the realism of that dream. Great poem, as always, you describe that feeling of being both out of control and frightened, yet curious so well

Lovely picture with equally chilling song, felt like I was dragged into an endless labrynth of nightmares, clawing my way to the brink of escape till there was no more... just a haunting sort of prison/death!!! Dark and soooo thriller creepy, perfect for the beginning of Halloween ;)

This poem is like a smite to the top of the head and being dragged away.
Its to powerful to not remain in control as it is being read. I loved the feeling of losing control. I felt the fear overwhelming. I thought it was amazing how your style forces the readers' mind to create their own demons. We frantically seek higher ground, but none of us are running from the same thing, even though we fear "it" the same.

Thank you very much :)
This poem does a great deal to reveal those inner fears that haunt us often... the continuous struggles that engage us in also comes with the bane that tears us apart from our loved ones.. In our struggle with the hardships we find ourselves detached, aloof and distant from the rest... But again when you wake up from such a bad dream and realize its nothing but a dream - ah! the feeling something else... This is such a beautiful piece embossed with a dark theme but a positive ending that takes you by surprise... And I just loved the picture above... You have an eye for art Emily... Well done my friend :)
