Demon

She wants to die.

She wants to leave this pain behind her.

The dark tentacles surround her heart,

And they refuse to let go.

The demon inside tells her,

“Just let go.”

The logical part of her knows,

The pain will stop soon,

But the demon inside is wearing her down.

She’s not strong enough to survive.

She wants it all to end,

But she is afraid.

She is afraid of hurting those she loves,

That is, if they even care,

She is afraid that when she leaves,

There’ll be no heaven for her.

But it’s cutting close.

She can feel the pain outweigh the fears.

The bright clouds of hope,

are slowly getting dimmer.

But she will fight,

until she can fight no more.

It may be a losing battle,

But she must try.

To me, this piece represents the strength that resides in a human heart. It reminds me of something Bob Marley once said: “You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.”

I think that we humans show our full strength during our times of struggle. So when it feels like "the demon inside is wearing us down," that's our time to show what we're capable of. I like how this piece shows that characteristic of mankind . . . our desire to stay strong amid dire situations can seem like a curse at times, but in the end, it's a blessing. There are many people who are like the person in this poem . . . hopefully they'll stay strong too. Thanks for sharing this piece.
