Midnight memories illuminated by moonlightA Poem by Xuannu5810As I sit on my plastic perch and look out into the world The shapes of my surroundings are swathed in silvery rays, A soft contrast compared to the sharp images of the day. I see couples entangled arm and arm Rush past my gate, blending into a single identity Two souls brought closer by the unconscious fear of darkness, Poorly illuminated by pallid rays. As people rush to the warmth of their homes I am content to sit in the cool night air, A phantom in the shadows The pale moonlight does not scare me, Rather it puts my soul at ease, solid ground amidst a raging tempest. I do not feel alone for I have millions of companions Each winking in the obsidian sky, friends who are so close yet so far away. They know my secrets and my desires They know my fears and they know my demons They do not judge, rather they listen with all their being Holding on to every word carried by the breath of the night. On so many lonely nights the moon and the stars kept me company Diligent and constant friends amongst a sea of every changing bonds When their time comes and they must say goodbye I hold in my selfish desire and let them leave. I know that I will see them again, An unspoken promise, given to me from the universe. So, for now, I will let them go. Keeping the moments we share forever in my heart. My midnight memories illuminated by moonlight. © 2019 Xuannu5810 |
