Song of a trapped canary

I was born into a world full of light and wonder,

Yet I am trapped within a cage of cold steel

Forever singing the desires to be free

Yet my song falling unheard, noise among the rabble

You hold me for my beauty 

But your grasp is like acid to my skin

It stings and makes me cry

Yet you smile without understanding

 and say that everything will be okay

You place my cage in front of the window

And open it to let in a cool breeze

Yet it's light kiss is torture to my soul

A teasing beckon to burdened spirit

It carries in the symphony of the world that rests beyond my bars

And I raise my voice to be included with it

A cry for help, but no one can hear

I try to create a current to carry my song

But my wings can not spread and beat

You have left me no room to move

I see my kin flypast with unburdened freedom 

And I long to be free, I will be free.

Your cage can no longer hold my desire 

And I use my will to breakthrough.

I was born into a world full of light and wonder

And now I am free to explore it.

I was trapped within a cage of cold steel that will never hold me again

I stretch my wings and soar through the air

my song an echoing tune for all to hear.
