Never knew It Coming

Never knew It Coming

A Poem by H L Rose
"

Idea derived from L Lawliet.

"
It's wrinkled skin, wrinkles your own.
Blood shot eyes, strike yours dry.
Though you turn your head in horror
long sharp claws devour your nails.

Never saw it sneaking.
Never heard it creeping.
Never knew it coming
till you felt its breath, chilling.

Before deformed features,
eager to spread,
shred the guise, it'll fertilize
wounds you bled
from masked attacks.

Never saw it leaping.
Never heard it shrieking.
Never knew it coming
till you felt blood dripping.

The infection will seep.
The seeds will grow.
Your complexion besieged
by a face you don't know.

If you encounter this monster
be slaughtered,
be skewered,
be goners.
After all,
we are that lying impostor.

Fun, playful Halloween poem with sinister overtones done well. I love your title & the way you worked this phrase into your poem. You do a great job of using dynamic verbs to make your storyline leap off the page. It's great to see you do something very different here . . . taking a break from your usually more spiritual inclinations? *heh! heh! heh!* Fondly, Margie

Really dark, spooky and much more evocative than the latest show ''The Haunting of Hill House''.

Eerie imagery and the recurring refrains intensify it even more. Gave me chills. Bravo!

Thank you! I’m glad it had an effect!
I absolutely love the imagery and narrative. Very spooky, and some very juicy lines. I wonder if it was intended to have a lack of pronouns, for with that lack it sounds rather awkward in certain parts. And the presence of these pronouns won't actually mar the musicality at all, if that was your original worry. But overall, this poem kills! Well freaking done!

Wow- Halloween is definitely coming up. Do you harvest the power of it and put it in a poem? Reading this my mind drifted to 'thriller' by Michael Jackson. Changing and morphing into a monster. What a great thing to write during october :D
