To Cage Words

To Cage Words

A Poem by H L Rose
"

It's a relationship Not a dictatorship

"

They’re devilish things,

singing giggling as they are wri g gl ing

Out of your tight, grip grasp.

They’re quite silly things,

fumb’ling tumblᴉuƃs,      together wondering

As lines like quick, slick paths.

They wrap, wrack your mind

Like pythons in tornados.

They slant, splint each rhyme,

Scaring away the stanza.

They rip, split your  br ain

like kind thorns on kind roses.

Amid mist they wait...

Or in snow’s  d r i f t, snowkissing

shining refrains, rain frozen,

ƃuᴉʇcǝlɟǝɹ on an sunny day.

I admit I must resign

From passionate,

yet inadequate and benign

Aims to tame,

Attempts in vain

--to bar them in a cage--.

And yet I must admit I see

My nature in their own,

Like a tree

Walking through a forest

Or a wave in an ocean,

A c

    a

      s

       c

         a

           d

             e

within the torrent,

A thief among the stolen

I liked this poem. The writing has a sort of whimsicality to it. "They rip, split your brain
like kind thorns on kind roses." Love this line!

Thank you! I’m glad you like that line!
Interesting form as you take the subject of writing and its challenges and portray it in an interesting piece set out in a fragmented way as if struggling with the words themeselves.

Quite right! Words are tricky little devils-- so few of us can ever tame them....

Thank you for reviewing!
Im not quite sure they should be tamed🤔
A very unique and informal way to write a poem. The thought behind this is genuine.

Thank you! I’m glad you think so!
love this
another true logophile
feels so playful
mutual
like the words themselves tug at your sleeve
knocking the pen across the page
spilling ink
causing a slipped keystroke
what have you
this reminds me of those times when words seem to write themselves
and i feel guilty for even suggesting that i had some sort of control over
what has just transpired on the page before me
this is that precise moment when words come alive
and they're fun
like trying to wrap your mind around a "python in a tornado"
two seemingly unrelated notions
thinking why?
and then why not?
this is bliss

Thank you! I really appreciate that and I’m glad you appreciate the “pythons in tornadoes”😆
I will admit, I am in no way fit to criticize nor comment on the message that this poem contains due to my lack of knowledge. What I can comment on is that it was very interactive to read the words you presented in a weird way, and I thought perhaps you could go further by using colours and different fonts to make' em stand out even more. I got the jist of it, but I am not prepared enough to give a wholesome review. I did like the read though, but it was difficult for me to engage in it just because the subject matter was foreign to me.

Thanks! I'll consider vamping up the interactive presentation. I'm glad you liked it!
Maybe you could try sign language. It may be more liberating for your words. hahaha
I enjoyed the humor throughout your poem and the uniqueness as well.
