Silence

Silence

A Poem by Zan

The rolling waves sigh in hushed tones
moaning their deep grey misery
to the creaking boards of the heavy ships,
whoever will stand and listen.

They batter the cold black wharves,
seeping in through fissures and cracks,
welling up at the feet of the forlorn
like pools of salty tears.

In little rivets the water runs
through the streets of the empty city
grey and dull and devoid of life
dead from the plague called war.

Beautiful. There is an excellent flow to this piece. It never felt feigned or contrived. I like the dark imagery: grey, black, etc; it really helped communicate the tone.
