What Happens When We Die

What Happens When We Die

A Poem by Alexa Tasch
"

This is what I want my afterlife to look like

"

All the lilies begin to sing

Petals dancing fantastically

Waters flowing majestically

To such a somber melody

As birds twitter tweet

That death is a wonderful treat

And warm rays of sun

Bathe you in golden river runs

Of starlight and wonder

While you're sleeping under

Soft rain is falling down

Everything cools under the sound

Of singing lilies

On starry nights

Away from all your foolish frights

Under the mist that follows rain

The world is now calm and tame

Here forever you will sleep

With the lilies of the deep

Sweetly they sing their lullaby

To the darkness in the sky

We all shall hear when we die

I'm not a religious person, but if there is an afterlife, I'd like mine to be like this. I am aware that there is no real rhyme scheme and I don't care!

The uncertainty of the afterlife worries me at times. Though if it is half as pleasant as this writing describes, my worries would wash away. Excellent piece my friend.

Yes, our bodies do rot in the ground. Yes they become food for worms that eat even our bones in time, bonemeal and dust is what we become. And you are right, we do become part of this ecosystem. But, of course you won't have a brain to understand, or eyes to see the colours, neither will you have years to hear anything let alone birds sing.

And like you I believe there is life after death, you are not religious, I am a believer. I believe we are living souls, spirit and flesh. I cannot prove it to you, but I believe when I die I will awake to a conscious existence with my Lord. I also believe I will be raised from the grave and receive a new body, a non-corruptible body and I will hear the birds sing and I will see the pretty colours.

Thank you for your poem, and it doesn't have to rhyme, you are right.

Sombre yet beautiful. The rhyme scheme sounds quite pleasant. Really good!

This sounds like a very nice place, and if heaven is anything like this, well it would be quite beautiful I think. :]

YOu do have sort of a rhyming scheme to this. It's a pleasant way to think of Paradise.
