Statistical Anomaly

Statistical Anomaly

A Poem by None

One, Two, Three,

The figures run,

Their unfaltering procession,

Watching me,

Staring at me,

Outside the box.

I try to break in,

Catch them, Those

One, Two, Three’s

Of normality.

I’m Punching, Kicking, Screaming,

Pushing at the boundaries.

Still they watch me, Those

One, Two, Threes.

My futility in fighting it,

They sneer down at me,

I’m counting all the while, Those

One, Two, Threes,

Make up everything I see,

Yet they do not perceive it as I do,

They don’t notice how they are, Those

One, Two, Threes,

Are part of a pattern,

An inevitability,

A collective intelligence that cannot see,

All they are, Is

One.

Two.

Three.

A good poem, I like the idea of being outside the box, of trying to break back in to gain some connection to (normal) people, to have any human contact, a desparate feeling surely, one idea to make it better (if I may be so bold) - taking out all the punctuation, the commas, or putting periods at the ends of a sentence, ex: Line 21, "they don't notice how they are. Those one, two, threes are part of a pattern." Just to be consistent throughout.

I am now repeating "one. two. three." In my head. This is certainly a compelling piece of writing.
