Rivers on the Tarmac

Rivers on the Tarmac

A Poem by Abdul Aziz

There are bikers on the sidewalks
And raindrops on the hedgerows;
The leaves are pouring water
And the tarmac’s draped with rainbows.

The outpour is a torrent and
The torrent’s a deluge;
The night is drowning in the rain
In search of some refuge.

The air is painted by the rain
And traffic lights galore;
There are a thousand lights behind me
And a thousand more before.

The owls are going cuckoo
And the cuckoo’s going away.
He is fed up with the pitter-patter
And this unwelcome soiree.

The roads are rivers, my bike’s a boat
And I'm headed to the seas.
Perchance I might find some shelter
Or an isle of peace.

Everything moves with the water through your words, my friend. The darkness carries the light, and the sound, the wildness of the storm rises with the waves. Powerfully stirring.

1 of 1 people found this review constructive.

this reminds me of the flooding in New Orleans several years ago...and much flooding that happened in different states this spring....you wrote it about a specific place, but definitely a universal theme.

the description, the images made me feel like i should have a raincoat on when i read this...

nicely done.
