I Look at the Mirror

I Look at the Mirror

A Poem by Blue
"

What do you see?

"
I look at the mirror and there I see
a very young woman smiling back at me.
With dark brown eyes, mysterious and deep,
she hides her monsters with secrets to keep.

I look at the mirror and there I see
the flaws on her face in morbid scrutiny.
She believes her lie--she's nothing but a beast,
with her heart intact to stay human at least.

I look at the mirror and there I see
someone with a name but without identity.
She used to be sure, now she's lost in her way
with nowhere to go, not even a place to stay.

I look at the mirror and there I see
the greatest of failures in world history.
With sins and mistakes all piled up so high
will one fervent prayer grant her mercy to die?

I look at the mirror and there I see
a shattered soul in poignant poetry.
Adorned with applause, hailed as divine
I pity the girl in her miserable shrine.

Powerful and deep thoughts.

We are the hardest on ourselves. We see weaknesses with ease and we don't see the strength of positive will and ideas. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

It's sad that you have to post your previous poems to this new account. At least I'm guessing that's what you're doing? Anyway, I've mentioned this before, I love the way you write. :) I wish I could write as well as you. This poem was beautiful. It depicts sadness and a lot of insecurities but hey that's life.
