The Display Window..by Michael

The Display Window..by Michael

A Story by Michael Reisman

She was dressed in different outfits for each season and holidays. A five foot three inch mannequin for all intent and purpose was to sell the merchandise in a display window. Her facial expressions never changed as she was made of wood and just stood wired and nailed to the floor with colored lights decorating the department store window. Michael took the extra steps to put on her makeup and carefully select a wig for whatever occasion she was in. There was bond he had with a non human form since his social life was practically non existent. Nobody else was in the display room to see him talk to her as if she was real. It was a private love affair between a lonely twenty five year old young man and a five foot three inch statue of wood. Wedding gowns were the item for June and Michael prepped the window display for a masterpiece that would never be forgotten. He measured her wooden finger and bought a wedding for this special occasion. The window display was complete as Michael went home that night and slept with a smile. He didn't show up the next day and his boss stood outside the display window to view the June bride along with a crowd of curious and interested shoppers. A new mannequin appeared next to the bride who happened to have a change of expression on her face. Huge smile that was never seen before. The likeness of groom was very much like his former and missing employee Michael. He didn't say anything but knew in his heart what had just happened. After the store had closed, the bride and the groom kissed for the first time. Case in point in a short love story beyond reality, that took place with no one to witness an after hour event in front of the display window...

This reminds me of an O.Henry short story, has similar sentiments but without the dialogue. Perhaps you might add some and bring this beautiful love story to life. Presumptuous for me to say, yes, but.. feel free to tear into one of my scribbles!
