Fluff and Stuff

Fluff and Stuff

A Poem by Andrew John

Elastic bands
bound as a ball
holding fluff
and other stuff -
oh, what a ball-like beast to bounce about.

It holds:
magic,
religion,
sorcery
and even thoughts of Harry Potter -
oh lovely stuff we play with,
hold as belief,
believe when we hold such stuff.

Yes, wish to believe in belief,
play with belief
until we can jettison it
and toy with belief again,
perhaps tomorrow
with a glass of wine
and several smiles
while giggling and babbling
and playing with that ball of elastic bands
that holds stuff, just as belief does.

can we grow up and still hold on to the joys and playfulness of youth?
It would be nice to believe we can.

Belief has bound things together for centuries. The medieval Christian church held the otherwise contentious European tribes together during difficult times. For that we should be thankful. For the more negative effects of belief, not so much.
