True, Alan. We do need some guide through the ups and downs of life. That guide can take many forms and a compass is a poetic expression of this although not a perfect one.

There was a best selling book...The Moral Compass.

A compass never lies. Hmm. True.
However, we lie to ourselves constantly.
For example:
I'll only do it just this one time.
He didn't mean to hurt me. I'll give him another chance.
They can't help it.
Etc. Etc. Etc....
But if our moral compass was set at NO ABUSE or NO SHOPLIFTING and we remembered to look at it first instead of charting our own course, we'd get to where we all want to go...a peaceful life.
