Brown and Beige

Brown and Beige

A Poem by alex.m1991
"

I wrote this poem because I was bothered by how people pretend that there is no more racism, but there is. I wrote this poem sort of as an ode to my best friend who happens to be African American.

"
Brown struggles
Beige watches
I have spent my life hoping to bridge the gap
Between brown and beige
Hoping for a world of alternation
As opposed to one of contrast
Brown is beautiful and bold
Beige is submissive and uninteresting
Hoping to bridge the gap
Between brown and beige
It is a tragedy
When genetics come before love
"That's the way its always been"
As long as there is an uncrossed bridge
The world will continue to fight for its wrongs
I, on the other hand, choose to be color blind
Continuing to fight a losing battle
To bridge the gap between brown and beige

About
I've been writing since I was in middle school. I've always had a great imagination, so writing for me comes naturally. I do find that poetry seems to be the best outlet for me as a writer. more..
