Science

Science

A Poem by Alex

Time to leave my mark on the road

To the land of proteins and nuclei I go

To tainted DNA and mutated sheep

As they jump over fences in three legged heaps

Steadily I wander to the land of science

Where proteins are purified and enzymes formed

There is no steady end in sight

I am the scientist of the generation

Sitting alone in my room I go

To the hours of books that await me

Time to leave my hand on the paper

The pen smeared on my face

Time to cry for what feels like forever

My calculator hates my embrace

Time to leave the land of arts

Time to begin anew

Time to start a journey with a new art

Science, do you love me too?

Oh, I do declare science how I love thee

Shakespearean is your creation

Robert Frost would be envious

For he may have traveled the road less traveled by

But I followed the story that is true

The story of DNA, genes, planets and stars

My hypothesis is correct

Oh, science, oh science, can you hear my call?

I am reading your textbooks once again

I am awaiting your reply

Do I purify a protein with an enzyme or antibody?

Is there an active site in sight?

Do fish truly need tomato genes?

Or was that just in hindsight?

Science you are a ravish love

You take me in your choking arms

I love the sensation of you choking me

Perhaps I am a masochist at heart

I walk the road more traveled by

Galileo, Darwin and Mendel walked before

I walk with my five pound textbook

Towards the land of science one more
