I Know

I Know

A Poem by Ashley

i have never been content with answers

that seemingly answer nothing.

at least with any certainty

but

“you’ll just know”

my father would tell me

when i would ask how i would recognize my prince.

“you’ll just know”

my mother would reassure me

as she would smooth my hair from my face.

i question everything.

committing to wear a pair of shoes for 9 hours

can be an agonizing decision.

and then you show up.

in less than one month i know i have committed my life to you.

the smile you place on my lips

is a better accessory than any shoe could ever be.

and i finally understand

my father’s smile

and my mother’s touch.

because i am certain that i just know.

Lovely poem. I like how you compare love to wearing a shoe. I really do, and it's very true.

This is a sweet poem. I love the way the statement makes no sense to one who doesn't understand...or the skeptic..but the epiphany arrives and opens up a totally new world that was previously undiscovered. I saw beams of light..heard bells, harps and the angels singing.
