Hindsight

Hindsight

A Poem by Laz K.

I know, Love, that it was Desire’s

Fidgety fingers jingling rusty pennies

Like rubies and pearls that made your

Empty pockets far too heavy to bear

I know, Love, that it was Fear

That cloaked and covered

Your scars and hid your

Bitter tears of inadequacy

I know, Love, that it was Need

That made you hold out a

Hopeful hand standing alone

In the dark alley of loneliness

I know, Love, that it was Hope

That kept on weaving fancy upon fancy

Till we were caught in a web of

Our own lies and deceit

But I know, Love, that your eyes were

The deepest dark well illumined by

Such treasures lying in the deep

That a man may ever hope to hold

-          Though may never keep

' I know, Love, that it was ..'

Should have known your words would be trembling with emotion, sir. That repeated first phrase at start of each stanza is such a special lure to what is however restrained writing, near heart~breaking.
