Evening Prayer

Evening Prayer

A Poem by Laz K.

When the day is done, and

Eyelids fall like curtains

On an eventful play, and

The last lights feebly flicker

And glow like distant

Stars in an endless sky,

I lay my mask on a pillow, and

Weep like a self-blinded Oedipus,

Clutching memories for a cane.

Sightless though I may be,

Broken, censured, and shamed,

I count my blessings, and

Give thanks for wisdom gained.

This is one of my favorites from you, Laz.
I love the metaphor that carries through.
The Eyelids falling like curtains on an eventful play.
Life isn't always an enjoyable play, but it is eventful....poor Oedipus, who saw more when blinded than he did with two good eyes.

Your poem speaks to me of the weird suspended animation that was the death of each of my parents. After a lifetime, all of us 9 kids hobbling along after years of severe childhood abuse, when each of them died we all just kinda stood around in our fragmented way, not pulling together & not really feeling any of the stuff most families feel (((HUGS)))

Amazing poetry Laz and it really connects. Hits the spot. One of your best I do declare.
