Being Wise

Being Wise

A Poem by Laz K.

Blood drips from billboards,

From headlines, oozes from

Slick screens, soaking white flags,

Taunting us like a matador’s muleta.

This time, there will be no ark to save us.

The flood of lies unleashed by

Malice and ignorance will drown us all.

We frown at the pharos in their high seats,

But dare not move, lest the pyramid

Crumbles, and freedom falls

Upon us with a terrible silence.

O unbearable, mute tranquility

Torment us not with your wordless

Judgment, with your maddening serenity!

We pray that you spare us from your mercy!

Let not the scales fall from our eyes, for

We can’t bear the weight of being wise.

This is both currently apropos globally but also eternally relevant to the baser attributes of mankind. This is strong is many ways, powerful theme, powerful vocabulary, powerful poetic voice. I am going to send a friend request so that I can be sure to read more of your work. It stands out.

dear Laz… we are praying for Divine Intervention… and that Hope in the Corner of Pandora’s Box… There is an Aura of Peace and Goodwill that may be forthcoming. tenderly, Pat

Has a political sound to it, this one. The world seems filled with autocratic rulers at this time, people who will use"malice and ignorance" to maintain their power. The speaker here seems to wonder whether the masses could handle freedom, though. The last line indicates it might be too much for them.

As long as there's an enemy to hate and blame, we don't have to face our own shortcomings.

'We can’t bear the weight of being wise.'

well done friend!

If there is any saving us, it will be a trick, just to make us wait in line to eventually be told that because we didn't pre-book a seat online for the ark, we are in the wrong queue and need to fill out a form the length of a forests worth of trees, written in braille, unless you're blind, then it will be written and answered in smoke signal.
Even me, with all my wiseations will be doomed!
And even if we somehow miraculously make it on, as we sail away, there will be one massive creak before we realise the termites have eaten our only hope of salvation.
And most of us will kinda deserve it.

The wisdom of this poem bears a weight of gargantuan significance. "The flood of lies, will indeed drown us all." It would appear at least one "can bear the weight of being wise"

Great poem my friend

No, there will be no ark...
nothing can save us from all the lies. Judgment will come, and we will be in big trouble.

So difficult these days to know what the truth is, especially when it comes to politics which seems to be influenced and driven by media looking to make a quick buck and to get a government which favours their interests, not the electorate. Being wise isn't easy. You certainly have to be careful what you read and believe in. I must be getting old, I long for days when a politician's word could be trusted and the press were unbiased in their reporting. I've never known a time where politics is so divided and in disarray in the UK and
the media so despised. That's where your lines took me on a peaceful, sunny Sunday morning Laz. All the best.

Chris
