Tour of Duty

Tour of Duty

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

visited the VA yesterday. Can you tell?

"
Tour of Duty

Come with me to the land of monsters and grins
A place where black pajamas are don by the thin
Where beetle nut makes a black teeth smile
and mama son, papa son and boy son
hide an AK 47 from sight.
Oh did I tell you they shoot with these guns!

You will last one year on your feet
that is if a bullet doesn't catch your beat
Blacks and whites will enjoy a fraternal hatred of each other
as one black man said this is a white man's war
as you mumble around the orders of an unusual nature
like shoot here or there but not everywhere.

The rains of Orange have something in store
as you explore the benefits of castration and more
to the age to 40 in anticipation of survival.
Have some heat of a 100 or more and the kind of humidity that blesses the soul
Last of all there will be no taxes to Sam
as banks diddle on GI's savings to the tune of greed's kin.

Thanks Pryde!

I appreciate your advice but it's my way of expelling the demons. I don't do counseling anymore.

Al

This was a very powerful but painful write for me to read. It is best not to let the monsters hitch a ride on your breathe ... or in this case your pen ... that is how they continue to live and some are best put to rest. There need not be war ... it only takes enough of us to realize it. To grow the peace inside. You know I love you, Al:)

reads true my friend ..your poem has set my heart to prayer for all those brave soldiers ..and the dire need for healing of all kinds ..the Viet Nam war was simply bad all around ..would that those Vets homecoming could be re-done :( and the cheers lifted on high in gratitude for service ... your poem has touched a deep well in me
