Long Stare

Long Stare

Long Stare

That long stare into nothing
a battle fatigue look that keeps on looking
Looking into the chaos, death wish, suffering and pain
You freeze in this look
Nothing is kept from the stare
You could wallow but the gift of strife dares a long strain
Oh please long stare, please go away!

This sounds like my father and husbands eyes in the hospital when each were dying. I still see that look. Valentine

Return a look of love and watch that glare dissolve to a glimmer. New sunrises are always cause for celebration ... unless you have to go to the dentist that day;) brilliant penning;)

I know the stare. Not the same kind of battle. But I know battle, and I know this stare.
Nice one Al.

i do hear this one ...we get stretched and stretched some more ...i am a Christian believer and use to get to that point where anguish, pain and helplessness brought the prayer .."OK...enough...take this off me Lord" ..(or something similar) ..and God would say "OK" .. and calm would come over me .. then God said "I am teaching you something you need. You have been beating at the door. Your hand on the door knob ..and I was just about to open it for you. Now we have to start allllllllllll over! OK?" ... and i said "ok" ..;) i also think of our soldiers at war ..especially the "great" wars .. where shell shock and the numbing of all the horrors brings on that stare .. your poem gives me a lot to think about this morning
