Little Miss LuLu

Little Miss LuLu

A Poem by S. Allison (Ferrante) Sanderson
"

This poem is for my younger sister, best friend and brain twin. I love her always and miss her company. I am so proud of who she has become!!

"

My Little Miss LuLu, baby sister and best friend by fate,
My life has been whole since that memorable date,
Momma’s death and rebirth prefaced my fright and delight,
As God blessed our family with a mold-breaker that night,

Chubby cheeks and cheery bassinet ball dances,
Followed by clever smirks and comical entrances,
You once dreamt of France, Sweet Francesca and me,
Since a small child you have always been free,

Despite my lack of sleep from the humming and braiding of toes,
The princess and the pee and yours truly lived without woes,
To our table you brought smart alec wisdom and pure truth,
Accompanied by a high pitched voice that could raise the roof,

Well-thought, sassy demands sparked by sensible views,
Each and every God-given talent you do flawlessly use,
You uplift through witty humor while always in good fun,
You, since day 867, have always been the clever one,

Each year as you aged and each day you have taken in,
God has gradually created an astounding woman within,
Breathtaking elegance accompanied by diversity and precision,
You not only broke the mold but you’re among his prized decisions,

With your sweet soul of beauty and your heart ever so pure,
You sacrifice without thought and exude an exotic allure,
I miss my Little Lulu, sweet baby sister and best friend by fate,
Here for you always, Lindsay, one could never debate.

Please tell me that you miss her because she moved away, or got married, and not (gulp!) Something Else! Or has she grown apart from you in temperament only, rather than in mileage? This is a sweet gentle memoir of an earlier time, an earlier condition. Wistful recollection can be among the poet's most powerful tools, and you have wielded it well.
Forgive me for asking, but I must know: is "princess and the PEE" merely a typo, or a subtle joke, about babies' favorite pasttime?
Hey! and did you notice, you and I are practically neighbors?

I enjoyed reading this. Having no sisters I can only imagine what your sister must mean to you. I can't imagine life without my brothers as prone as they are to being pranksters.
