I Am.

I Am.

A Poem by AllyKinzz:)

School assignment.

I Am

I am from acoustic guitars.

From cereal and milk.

I am from the small and busy house,

Filled with vanilla candles and music.

I am from the rose bush, and the oak tree,

Whose long limbs,

I remember as if they were my own.

I’m from singing and individuality,

From T.J. and Larry.

I’m from lying, selfishness,

And from judgmental looks.

I’m from, “The mouth of south”,

And, “Be kind to others”

And, “Only God knows why”.

I’m from playing pool at grandmas,

I’m from Angleton and Sargent,

Salad and ranch.

From falling off a slide backwards,

Almost lifeless.

A white cross in the ground,

Under our bridge,

So he won’t be forgotten.

Okay, the design of the lines is physically appealing, pulling the reader down the proverbial slide of your poetic. Then the words themselves grab a hold of the readers interest, making us feel like we are peeking into a soul, until the ride ends at the white cross in the ground, and the dark mixes in feeling and sensibility to heighten confusion and a great sense of wonder... it's as if it is left incomplete on purpose to pull curiosity and emotion from the reader. I would love to know what the assignment was, and this would make a great intro to a plotted short story told in a series of designed poetics...
