Redundant

Redundant

A Poem by alternative_be
"

I was struck by the duality of the word, but then my social worker background got the better of me...

"

Redundant

Words can be superfluous
Flying fluently before
Your eyes reading
Too quickly
What is being said about

People becoming superfluous
Flying fluently while
Just doing their jobs
Too quickly
Due to the rat race

Racing their head off
Meeting the deadline
For tomorrow
They will be superfluous
Years of good work have

Flown fluently
Passing by
On the way
To redundancy

Ahh, it feels good to read and think.

Reading your description made me curious. How could the word "redundant" mean anything, but repetitive and boring. Just like Ms. K, to only see the negative... so I looked it up.

REDUNDANT: adjective
Etymology: Latin redundant-, redundans, present participle of redundare to overflow - more at redound
Date: 1594
1 a: exceeding what is necessary or normal : superfluous b: characterized by or containing an excess; specifically : using more words than necessary c: characterized by similarity or repetition dchiefly British : no longer needed for a job and hence laid off
2: profuse, lavish
3: serving as a duplicate for preventing failure of an entire system (as a spacecraft) upon failure of a single component.

Why according to this I could see my day of chores and errands as profuse and lavish... huh... maybe I will, more fun that way.

I like #3. If I look at life this way, through this lens of meaning... the whole fabric of my families existence depends on what I do... double huh...

Reminds me of Star Trek, yes, Star Trek. Capt. Kirk is always asking "Computer" to solve some problem or other. Isn't it funny that even the make believe voice of the computer is feminine? She couldn't always solve the problem either. So much like life...

This was really great thanks for sharing...

Ain't that the truth... without realizing sometimes we end up getting stuck in the same old daily grind repeating our actions over and over... a very well done write that makes me think I need to break away from that revolving door from time to time.

I guess all we can do is try to make a difference where it truly matters, the people we meet. I've worked at my job for fifteen years now and there have been dozens of folks come and go during that time. Some of them I've worked with directly for months, even years. It always surprises me when, within a few weeks of their leaving, I forget the names of those with whom I've worked so closely.
But there are others that I'll never forget. Those who somehow truly made a difference.

Words and peole becoming redundant in the same context, due to haste. That's what I got, the feeling I had after reading this poem. That you should slow down and smell the MF'ing flowers or whatever tickles your fancy, because eventually, it may lose it's meaning.

Really liked it.
