LIKE THE COVER,TURN THE PAGE

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Books are like people
Or are people like books?
Standing patiently on the shelves;
Waiting to reveal all about themselves.
Those attractive covers grabbing your eye,
Time to decide if you wish to buy,
And to lure the buyer to the catch,
An interesting title just to match!
After the connection, the cover is exposed
To reveal stories never told.
Some books become favourites and are taken to bed;
Tension, excitement, all in the head.
And as your thoughts are opened wide
For hidden messages between the lines.
Enjoyment is given as a life unfolds,
While other books are left in the cold.
Sadly, unattractive to the eye, not even given a try.
Never to be explored or touched;
Such a shame for there is much,
For hidden treasures are abound
Just waiting for the moment to be found
For some, you'll find the cover just a mask,
But maybe inside, all the qualities you could ask.

I love this piece!
I love how you compare people to books. & Frankly what you say is true.
Sometimes people judge books by their cover. I've been guilty of that, but they also judge people by just what they see on the outside. We need to take the time to look on the inside of both!

Great job!

Love the metaphor. We are all guilty of judging a book by its cover just as we do people. I think as we get older it becomes less and less about the outside and more and more about whats hidden within! Great write AM

Good comparison. I have always loved books and I may have came across the same sentiment. However, you did a nice job in putting them into words. Kudos!
