The pulling of strings.

The pulling of strings.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

Did the King of Strings
get knotted,
all tied up
finally slipping on
his own noose?
To string or
not to string
that was the question
the crowd did ask
as they looked around
for the hangman.
In the end
they just cut loose.

My very serious review of this very serious poem begins with the assumption that the hangman is the king of strings.

A crowd gathers for a right-good execution but, oh, wouldn't you know, the hangman is playing hookey today and nobody else has the authority to carry out the deed. Or they're just not sure how to tie a noose.

Either way, since we're all here and there's nothing better to do, we might as well turn this shindig into a good old fashioned dance party. The condemned is at this point invited to join the revelers.

Pretty sure that's how the story goes. A real feel-good romp in the world of snapping necks and violent mobs.
