What will I see?

What will I see?

A Poem by andrew mitchell

What will I find on
the turning of the key?
Opening the door
I peek inside
I see me
leaving today for
the entrapment of tomorrow.
My shadow finds me
on time's calling,
I was given my epitaph which read:
" Close the door behind you."
On wandering through
their graves of their minds
I patted their headstones.

Those shadows know more than we do. They whisper all the time. Perhaps when it's time for us to leave this earth we'll be handed a book of all the times we didn't hear or listen.

Nice one, andrew.

Thanks Tim
My heart stood still... when I read the closing line.
I remember choosing my Mother's headstone which was made
in the shape of a large Rose Quartz marble Heart... etched in black print was her favorite poem
on one side and her name and the names of her loved ones and close friends on the other side with dates.
I know her Spirit lives on, and she and others are "our" guardian angels.
The "Key" to Heaven is within our Heart. A beautiful poem that resonates in my Soul.

Remorse or bitterness for something which happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring. Truly, this poem brings the feeling in me the entrapment of tomorrow with a multitude of emotions. Nicely penned poem with deep thought adding an aura of introspection within us. Glad to read Sir :)

The inevitable waits us all. Lurks in the background and we don't know how long we have got. Just lost my brother in law to covid. So unexpected, it just goes to show we can't take anything for granted. Hi Andrew, keep safe and well.

I'm afraid that's how most people see their life trajectory. As for closing the door behind me, more sage advice I've never known. There's no such thing as closure & looking back is always an invitation to reignite mistakes & arguments (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Indeed Margie when you go that's it!
It is physically rather final isn't it. For some would be better if mentally yesterday was final as well. But then there are those memories...oh yess...those memories. I really like this!

Thank you Crowley for your kind words.
Old wise saying. Death is always waiting. Native Americans believe. If you look quick enough. He is on your left shoulder and waiting. Hello Andrew.
" Close the door behind you."

I loved the above lines. Honest and strong words. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
