In the light of Captain Nemo.

In the light of Captain Nemo.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

The topography of an ocean’s heart
travelled on Poseidon’s blood
where love bubbled around
Neptune’s seas in search
of Atlantis.
There in search,
fishing lines are baited
in Greek Mythology
in the hope of snaring
a hopeful to join
in love’s legacy
while I roll on the tides
of the sea floor
with a trident in one hand,
and sea cucumbers
on the underwater barbecue,
I spot a mermaid,
and realise I am
the chosen one
to make love to
all nymphs of pure delight
because someone has to
step up and do it,
but not on a bed
of sea urchins
and never ask
octopus to lend an arm,
and finally i would end this
if only I could find a full stop,
but I’m in Davy’s locker
twenty thousand leagues
under the sea sharing
stories with Moby Dick.
