The stand off!

Shadow me this
do not stay in my brightness.
said the light.
Do not come any closer
or I will engulf you.
said the shadow.
Do what you will.
I’m switching off.
said the light.
Enjoy my darkness.
said the shadow.
I shall return. said the light.
And so day and night
became a permanent fixture.

I like the play on "fixture" in a metaphorical and literal sense.
