You Are Bright

You Are Bright

A Poem by Amanda Buscemi

You are bright,
because you are better at the game than I.
That is all it is;
and so, you are not that very special.
You don't need to be distracted
by the burning gases and restless matter
that change endlessly above us.

I don't see how it's relevant
that you can move straight forward
and I only in halting steps;
with frequent and suspicious looks
to the right and to the left.

My withstanding of this charade is
coming to an end.
I must be prodded back into place.
I must be shown the way forward
(though I know all the time
that it is a trick).

Let us all pretend that we feel at home,
and that everything is alright.

Such a well-conceived, well-written piece that when I finished reading, I truly felt sorry for you both. It is unfortunate that each of you can't seem to recognize and respect the other's obviously complementary talents. Theoretically, at least, it appears you would make a good team.
In any event, I'll wager that your partner is not nearly the poet you are, Amanda.
Excellent work.
