the sparkle in her eye

on photos and things

Flipping through a magazine
its glossy pages smiling back
she is so beautiful
but it's just a mirage -
looking at an empty glass
A photo but a moment
brushed and shined to perfection
You cannot see the sparkle
in her eye
or the life in her cheeks
the intent on her lips or
the way she wrinkles
as she is about to smile
ask me for a photo
and I send it
but it isn't me -
it's just a picture of
who I am supposed to be.
